GSS Jell-O Mold Competition 2010 Jell-O Mold Competition Keep Calm and Wobble On.
The Gowanus Studio Space Jell-O Mold Competition is back for a second year . . . because frankly, Jell-O hasn't gone anywhere. It wobbles onward, come what may. Jell-O springs eternal. This year's competition asked designers to explore the resilient properties of Jell-O as a design medium, cultural phenomenon, and food that just won't quit.
2010 WINNERS Saturday, June 26, 2010
GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Aspic Ascension--Tastes Like Heaven Shelly Sabel
Runner Up for Creativity: Temporary Gulf Oysters Nicole Stowe
Runner Up for Aesthetics: Healthcare Re-Form Peter Pracilio
Runner Up for Structural/Sculptural Integrity: Jelloware THE WAY WE SEE THE WORLD, Monica Bhatia, Chelsea Briganti, Ingrid Zweifel, and Leigh Ann Tucker
Jelloware re-imagines the concept of drinking, and imparts a new experience in the way it feels, tastes, smells, moves, and is even disposed of. The cups are made entirely out of agar agar and cast in different flavors, such as lemon-basil, ginger-mint, or rosemary-beet, each specifically designed to compliment a corresponding drink. Jelloware is meant to be thrown into the grass after it is used, as agar agar is a seaweed extract and actually nurtures the growth of plants.
Runner Up for Edibility/Culinary Appeal: Traditional American Sweets The Artist Bakers, Andrea Lekberg and Erica Leahy
Special Jury's Meat Lovers' Honorable Mentions: The Trophy Room David Gould, Ben Light, and Ben Walmer
People's Choice: Louie Comfort's Jiggly Bits Kenzan Tsutakawa-Chinn, Melissa Zook, and Julia Greene
